Light … Through a prism (by Paul Mulliner)

As rainwater slips,
streams and slides
down the window,
and seagulls screech
and circle in the sky,
so much of life seems
seen through a lens of thought,
a prism that refracts and bends
what we think of as reality.
Realities collide
in the discord
of the present moment.
Let’s dissolve
this thought-prism
through which
we sometimes see the world,
let’s minimise those thoughts
that separate us
from each other,
let’s find
the conscious inner space
that includes all of us
within itself,
offering itself generously to all,
seeing no difference
in all the different
human beings.
Let’s be the larger self
we know ourselves to be,
not the self that thinks its way
into conflict and anger.
Let’s be the universal self in all of us,
dissolving our separate thoughts
into a single conscious space
where all life breathes
with one breath,
helping us live with our
brightest inspirations
rather than
our darkest fears.
The silent song
of the Universe inside us.
