‘The Fall’ is een zetting van regels uit Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”, inclusief een van de meest epische slotregels in de geschiedenis van de literatuur: ‘daar kwamen we naar voren om de sterren opnieuw te aanschouwen’. En om dat te vieren, hebben we samengewerkt met animator Sharon Liu om deze angstaanjagende nieuwe geanimeerde muziekvideo te maken! Het stuk wordt gezongen door ModernMedieval, Pene Pati en het Royal Opera Chorus (onder leiding van William Spaulding) en gespeeld door het Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (onder leiding van mij).
Je hoort ook dat het thema ‘Sogno di Volare’ op het einde nog even terugkomt! Dat komt omdat die melodie, die velen van jullie kennen als het thema van “Civilization VI”, als een terugkerend motief door het hele album wordt gebruikt. Het keert terug na onze donkerste momenten van falen om ons weer op de been te brengen en voorwaarts te blijven gaan in onze zoektocht om de hemel te veroveren. The Fall is gemaakt in opdracht van David Byard ter ere van de menselijke verlichting

‘The Fall’ is a setting of lines from Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”, including one of the most epic closing lines in the history of literature: ‘thence we came forth to rebehold the stars’. And to celebrate, we collaborated with animator Sharon Liu to make this haunting new animated music video! The piece is sung by ModernMedieval, Pene Pati, and the Royal Opera Chorus (conducted by William Spaulding) and played by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by me).
You’ll also hear that the ‘Sogno di Volare’ theme makes a brief appearance at the end! That’s because that melody, which many of you know as the theme to “Civilization VI”, is used as a recurring motif throughout the album. It returns after our darkest moments of failure to summon us back to out feet, and to keep pressing forward in our quest to conquer the heavens. The Fall was commissioned by David Byard in celebration of human enlightenment
