“…Seven more silvery five-pointed stars scattered chaotically around: one to the right and three at the top and bottom. A small white ball with a gray shadow occupied the empty space on the left.
The blue shield had an orange line around the edge. The white scroll had the same outline, which framed the lower corner of the heraldic element. Inside it was a blue inscription “AIR FORCE SPACE COMMAND” in serif capital letters. In a way, the AFSPC logo honors the history of the USAF because planets, stars, orbits, and arrowheads are traditional symbols of space-related units.
The blue circle with the grid system represents our planet. So it is no accident that Delta is in the foreground: this fact indicates that it is “ahead of the rest of the planet.” In addition, the triangular symbol looks like another shield, but not a heraldic one, but a barrier.

Crew Flight Test patch revealed (Starliner Boeing / NASA) – January 2023

<..> Flight patches have served for decades as iconic representations of our nation’s human spaceflight programs, flight tests and missions. The patches are composed of symbols, colors and icons that represent the objectives of and significance behind each endeavor beyond Earth’s atmosphere. <..>
Inside the patch are also seven stars that serve as a reminder of the astronauts who boldly traveled to space during NASA’s Mercury Program while the astronaut symbol between Wilmore and Williams’ names represents all who will follow in their footsteps after Starliner receives its safety certification from the agency.
“Historically mission patches have included seven stars, which signifies the history of human spaceflight, all the way back to the original Mercury 7 astronauts,” Wilmore said. <…>
