All Those Things We Never Said… Before
(by Paul Mulliner)

Though we’re here
just briefly in this world,
the eternal is always in our heart,
its poetry of silence lingering
like sunlight in a summer garden,
while all the moments drift
and slide and slip away
as though they’re footprints in the sand
washed away by streaming tides.
And for every fleeting moment
this boundless mystery is like a song
that has no end and no beginning,
a song blended through the fabric of the world
that’s dancing in the fluid surface
of the moment,
while all our experiences,
fading, gone forever,
like footprints
on a windy, snowy road,
are woven through a larger self
that’s everywhere
and touches all the stars.
When we forget to find the silence
and live only in the surface of our life,
we forget to know this star-filled sky
always breathing through our heart,
and as the moments pass
like echoes fading
in the wind
that sighs in nearby trees,
I pause awhile
to know my heart
and say thank you
to something in the universe
words can’t describe,
while tea cools
and the road is wet from rain.
