Ons universum is niet stil

Hoewel de ruimte een vacuüm is, betekent dat niet dat er geen geluid in zit. Geluid bestaat in de ruimte… in de vorm van elektromagnetische trillingen. Bijna alle soorten astronomische objecten geven enige radiostraling af. De sterkste bronnen van dergelijke emissies zijn de pulsars, bepaalde nevels, quasars, radiosterrenstelsels enz. Deze radiogolven kunnen worden opgevangen door het speciaal ontworpen instrument dat bekend staat als ‘astronomische interferometer’. Dit apparaat kan de radiogolven omzetten in de frequentie binnen het bereik van het menselijk gehoor (20 – 20.000 Hz). Voyager en Hawk-Eye behoren tot de vele sondes die ruimtegeluiden opnemen.

Kunnen we geluiden horen op andere planeten/manen met elk type atmosfeer? Ja dat kunnen we. Aangezien elke vorm van materie geluidsgolven kan uitzenden, kunnen we geluid horen op Mars, Titan, Venus of elke andere plaats met een atmosfeer.

Although space is a vacuum, that does not mean there is no sound in it. Sound does exist in space.. in the form of electromagnetic vibrations. Nearly all types of astronomical objects give off some radio radiation. The strongest sources of such emissions are the pulsars, certain nebula’s, quasars, radio galaxies etc.. These radio waves can be captured by the specially designed instrument known as ‘astronomical interferometer’. This device can convert the radio waves into the frequency within the range of human hearing (20 – 20,000 Hz). Voyager and Hawk-Eye are among many probes which record space sounds.

Can we hear sounds on other planets/moons with any type of atmosphere? Yes, we can. Since any kind of matter can transmit sound waves, we can hear sound on Mars, Titan, Venus or any place with an atmosphere.
